New Free Agent Signings

Arizona signs Free Agent 3B Aramis Ramirez to $30,960,000 for 3 years, MR Matt Roney 3 years $11,910,000, and SP Cesar Carrillo to a 4 year $32,000,000 deal.

Along with the Dunlap addition, the D-Backs  are looking stronger than ever.  Making it to the World Series each of the last 3 seasons with only 1 title to show for it, says we needed just a bit more.  I think these guys will put us over the hump.

D-Backs land first baseman

Cory Dunlap
Dunlap

Arizona didn’t waste any time after losing the World Series to start improving the team for next year.  Today the Oakland A’s traded 1B Cory Dunlap to the D-Backs for SS Pedro Ciriaco.

This move will bring even more power to a lineup that finished 2nd in the league in 2011.  We didn’t have a spot for Pedro, so this is a good deal.

D-Backs don’t bounce back, lose WS again

In their 4th total and 3rd straight World Series appearence Arizona without SS Steven Drew were beaten by the Boston Red Sox 4 games to 2.  We should have had a few of those, but luck was not on our side.  Oh well, wait ’til next year.

It took 7 games to get it done, but Arizona beat St. Louis 4 games to 3 to move onto their 3rd straight World Series appearance.

Arizona takes 1st round

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Atlanta Braves 3 games to 1 in the 1st round and will move onto the NL Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.  Pitching was key in this series and we got it.  We would love to see a repeat World Series with Boston, but we need to get by the Cardinals first.

D-Backs Win Division

NL West Champs
2011 NL West Champs

The 2011 Arizona Diamondbacks win the National League West Division for the fifth straight year.  It was a tough season with the early injuries, but we made it.  The team is 100% healthy for the playoffs and look ready to take another World Series title.

Baldelli to Arizona

Rocco Baldelli
Baldelli

RF Rocco Baldelli is now a D-Back.  Coming from Colorado in exchange for CF Vernon Wells, MR Doug Slaten and SP Greg Smith.

Vernon will be missed, but Rocco brings a great game himself.  We just needed to mix things up a bit here and we have always liked Rocco’s style of play.

They’re dropping like flies

Here we go again.  2B Lobo Sabe suffered a damaged meniscus in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is expected to miss at least 4 weeks.

Injuries taking toll

A very strange thing is happening in Arizona. The D-Backs are not dominating the National League West. And to make matters worse, SS Stephen Drew just went down with a strained elbow ligament and will miss 2 months. As if that wasn’t bad enough, RF Justin Upton also went down for 2 months with a torn rotator cuff. They both join MR Randy Choate who’s been on the disabled list recovering from a strained tricep muscle since 4/16/2011.

The next few months will tell a lot about this team.  I believe this team is deep enough to stay in contention.  We shall see.
